How to Overcome Fearfulness in your Pet Sitting Business

One of my past students tagged me in a pet-sitting forum. I went through this thread, and the topic was about me as a coach and if my pet sitting business programs were worth it.

Some past students had terrific things to say, while others I have never spoken to or met were saying awful rude things. They said I was arrogant, full of myself, and anything I had to offer is a waste of money.

I was taken aback for a minute. I read through the thread, closed my eyes, felt it, and I said “How does this feel? It does not feel good. I’m not going to lie.”.

QUOTE - How to Overcome Fearfulness in your Pet Sitting Business

A couple of years ago, such judgment would have derailed me and have me in tears. I feared putting myself out there to start the coaching business and thinking about what people would say and if I’m good enough.

After all years of mindset work, working on my internal self and thoughts, and understanding what judgment means, I realized that I am good no matter what.

Do the internal work. Understand that not everyone will like you.

When you understand that no matter how nice, kind, and giving you are, there will be people who love you, those that are neutral to you, and those who will not like you, it is an inevitable fact. It would be best if you embraced it.

Embrace it and put yourself out into the world regardless. Understand that you are worthy.

How many pet owners can you service and take excellent care of their pets if you start working on this fear of judgment? Don’t let it hold you back.

Understand that for those people who are going to hate, let them hate. The ones who love you and are going to love your services are the people you want to attract to your business, and they are the ones you want to help.

As for the haters, wish them love, but be on your way.

Using Thought Work in Your Pet Sitting Business

I love everything related to mindfulness and personal development. My college roommate used to make fun of me with all my personal development books, which helped me create a positive mindset to attract and develop the results I want and need in my life.

So I’m going to keep doing it. Every day, I pull out one of these cards to start my day when I sit on my desk. Today’s card states that “I can decide today to recalibrate my energy and commit to love and joy.” This process may not be your thing, which is okay, but it works for me.

Thought Work

A couple of years ago, I stumbled across this excellent podcast called The Life Coach School by Brooke Castillo. This podcast changed my life.

The podcast took my thought work to a whole new level. It made a significant impact on me that I also sent it to my friend, Bridget Cooper, who was working in a big corporate job in Philadephia. We would both binge-listen the podcast and would have fantastic brainstorming sessions about it.

Then one day, she told me, “I’m leaving my job, and I’m going to become a life coach.”

I didn’t expect that, but I was also very excited because she’s so good at this. She went to Brooke Castillo’s Life Coach School Training, got certified from Brooke, and she now offers such fantastic value and helps so many people.

I’m going to gift you today with Bridget’s free coaching calls. Click the link below to schedule a call with Bridget and decide if life coaching is for you.

What To Do When You Lose Motivation with Your Pet Sitting Business

There’s this thing called motivation that ebbs and flows. Some days you wake up, and you’re like, “All right, I’m ready to do this,” and you get a whole lot of stuff done. The next day you don’t feel like doing anything and don’t want to work on the business.

This feeling is normal. You’re a normal human being.

Motivation is a discipline, not a feeling

Think about professional athletes. They have to wake up every day to train to be in shape. I highly doubt that these people want to do this all day every day, but they don’t have a choice. They are working at it every single day to play at their peak performance level.

It’s the same with your business. You need to learn to act even when you don’t feel like it.

QUOTE - What to do when you lose motivation with your pet sitting business

Recommit to Yourself

It would be best if you told yourself, “Okay, this is what I set out to do. This is the business that I want to create. These are the results that I want to create. I’m the one that’s going to make them happen, and I’m going to do this whether I feel tired, whether I feel sad, whether I feel groggy. I’m going to wake up, and I’m going to work on my business every single day.”

Little steps add up. So every day, work on three tasks. You get more done, that’s amazing. If you can get three tasks done every day, you will grow leaps and bounds in your business.

So again, motivation is a discipline, and it is not a feeling. Once you learn that and get that mindset and say, “I just don’t feel like doing it, but I’m going to do it anyway,” you are going to reap the rewards.

Take this time to recommit to yourself, to your business, and to your future self, because your future self will thank you for doing so.

Get More Done in Your Pet Sitting Business by Creating a Model Calendar

Pet sitters struggle with time management, especially if you are still out doing the dog walking, pet sitting, and house sitting. Thus, it makes it challenging to work on the business to move it forward. I talked about this previously when writing about Creating a Container Around Your Time. Today’s lesson has to do with Making a Model Calendar.

Make a Model Calendar

The model calendar is a strategy wherein you get a Google Calendar, then create a structure and routine for yourself.

For example:
– Monday 7:00 am: Plan your week. This is your planning power hour.
– Tuesday to Saturday 7:00 am: Admin work. Check customer emails, respond to customer requests, etc.

Put Focus Time on your calendar.

This is when you are committed to showing up for yourself, to work on and grow the business. If you stick to your calendar, you are going to be so much more productive. But the trick is to show up for yourself. The only person you’re letting down by not following your model calendar is you.

QUOTE - Get More Done in Your Pet Sitting Business by Creating a Model Calendar.png

Don’t forget to test your model calendar.

You may find out that you don’t show up for your Monday power hour sessions. So you may decide to move that to Sunday afternoons.

You may find out you need more time for admin work on Mondays and Fridays. So you may increase those hours.

You may find out you’re not showing up for your focus time and implementation time to work on the business at that specific time for whatever reason. Move the time.

The hours of service can vary among pet sitters. You need to test things out to figure out what works for you.

So creating a routine, structure, and framework for your week helps get much more done. Go to Google, create a Model Calendar, and get to it.

What I’ve Learned This Past Decade

I thought it would be fun to look back at some of the big lessons I’ve learned over the past decade in my pet sitting business.

Truthfully, this list could have been much longer, but these were the things that stood out the most to me.

1. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. Know when it’s time to pivot.

2. Get help in your pet sitting business before you think you need it.

3. Build a team ASAP to free up your time for revenue-generating activities. In short, stop working IN your business if you want to multiply.

4. Always listen to your gut. If you have a bad feeling about a PIA client or prospect or a sitter on your staff, listen to what your body is telling you. It’s your intuition trying to speak to you. Every time I have ignored that feeling, I have lived to regret it.

5. Success, at its foundation, is generally a sequence of steps followed in order.

6. You’ll never really ever, “feel ready.” Do it anyway.

7. You’ll sometimes need to go through majorly rocky STUFF to get to your loftiest goal – these things happen FOR you. They are lessons to prepare you for bigger and better things.

8. The energy and mindset work is real and has played a massive role in my success.

9. Beware of the people in your life who are energy sucks. Create clear boundaries to protect your energy and well-being.

10. Money is energy. Respect it. Treat it like you’re in a relationship with it. Don’t ignore it.

11. The world you see around you is a reflection of the thoughts you think every day and the belief systems you carry through life. Change your thoughts, change your life.

How Life Coaching Has Impacted My Pet Sitting Business

Today’s business growth tip explores how I have used life coaching to impact my pet sitting business.

When I first learned about mindset I was taught that our thoughts create our reality. And while that’s true, it’s not quite so simple.

To begin with, I assumed if you just thought happy thoughts things would manifest and you’d be good to go.

But when life coaching came into my life, it took mindset work to a new, more powerful level that shows how you have control over the results you get in your life.

A life coaching model that made one of the biggest impacts on me was created by coach Brooke Castillo who says that all circumstances are neutral. So no matter what happens to you, you decide how you are going to think about it. It’s all up to you. You can choose a negative thought or you could choose a positive thought.

What you are thinking is going to create how you feel.

Circumstances are neutral, thoughts create your feelings, which drive your actions, which create your results.

Is what you’re thinking making you excited or is it making you anxious? Is it making you happy or is it making you sad?

Then your feelings drive your actions. How you’re feeling is what prompts action. If you’re feeling anxious, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, the action probably is going to be some form of inaction.

But if you’re thinking productive, happy, exciting thoughts, the action is going to be to complete the tasks in front of you, which will then create the result in your life.

So what does this mean for you, your life and your pet sitting business?

It means that you can create any single result that you want in your own life by being the watcher of your thoughts.

What are you thinking every day?

What are your belief systems?

So many of us have belief systems around money and what we can do with our businesses.

I see the difference in mindset approaches with many of my students and members of my Facebook community.

Let’s say I have two separate students. I give them both the same curriculum, the whole A to Z to create amazing businesses. One shows up every week. She goes to the classes, watches the videos, completes the worksheets, she implements, she asks questions, she does masterminding within the community and she gets amazing results.

Then there’s student B. They don’t watch the curriculum, they don’t show up to classes, they don’t ask questions, they don’t become part of the community and therefore they don’t get results.

What do you think is the difference between these two students? They both have the same content available to them, to give them everything they need to have a successful business.

What changes are you ready to make today?

You’ve got to learn how to manage your thoughts so that you can create amazing results in your life. Thoughts equal feelings which drive actions, which create results. I cannot tell you how much this has impacted my life and has impacted my business.

The first step in all of this is just start watching. Start watching when you feel that negative thought or you have an attack thought about something. Say, “Oh, that’s just a thought, and a positive one is also available to me and I’m going to go with that one.”

We recently added a life coach to the Pet Nanny Coaching staff because I think it’s such an important ingredient for success.  I’ve made her available to my scholars. My scholars group includes those students who are successful graduates of my Multiply Mastermind.

You change your thoughts, you change your life. If you change your thoughts, you change your feelings and change your actions and you change your results.  What changes are you ready to make today?

How to Stay Organized and Motivated When Working From Home

I haven’t done a pet sitting visit in about 13 years. So I know what it’s like to be in your house and trying to be productive and motivated. Here are nine tips for you on how to do this.

Create a Miraculous Morning

How you start your day is absolutely everything. Don’t turn on your phone once you open your eyes, reading the news of Twitter, and taking all negative information. You are not starting the day on the right foot.

I get up, have breakfast, do workout, shower, then do my meditation and prayer practice. These activities calm my mind, so I positively start my day. That can be your morning routine.

Get Dressed and Showered

A lot of people work from home in their jammies, dirty-ish type of clothes. Don’t spend your day in slippers or bare feet. It isn’t good for your mind or productivity. My suggestion is to get up and wear something clean and nice, with shoes. No need to wear anything fancy.

Have a Designated Workspace

Not everybody has a home office, but it does something for your mind and productivity to be able to go to a specific space where you can work. It could be a dining room table or a kitchen table.

See It Through Strategy

On a Sunday or Monday morning, sit down and have a power planning hour. You will dump every single thought and task you have on paper. It should take about an hour.

Get them out in your head and write it all down. Then schedule them on your calendar. You can also use Google Calendar. You’re taking everything on that list and organize on when you’re going to complete it. Then you throw that list of all your tasks and to-dos. You know you have already had everything written down, and you know your future self is going to show up and do it.

Have your Finish Friday Hour

Schedule time to go through all your tasks. See what you have and haven’t completed for the week. For the things you didn’t complete, you’re going to take note of those, and they will go into your next planning power hour. This is organizing and time management.

How to Stay Organized and Motivated When Working From Home quote

Do not mix your home chores and workday tasks

Work hours are for work hours. You have to be strict about this. If you stop what you’re doing to put in the laundry or to fold a load that’s in the dryer, everything is going to take you so much longer to get it done.

Define Boundaries with your Family and Friends

I don’t get it why people think I’m available to them at every moment. So guess what? My phone is now on do not disturb mode during office hours. I check it to make sure my kids are fine at school, but 95% of the time, I don’t respond to my friends. I am focused on what I’m doing.

Every time you hear that ding, you stop. It takes your focus off on what you’re working on, and if it is not urgent, it’s not going to help you with where you want to get in your business. Do be strict with yourself and put on the do not disturb.

Get up and move.

Have scheduled breaks where you get up and go for a walk. Take the dogs out for a walk. Get some fresh air. Or do some weight exercises. Put on some music and dance around to get in a good mood. Do anything to get your body moving. Have 10-minute breaks scheduled so you have time to breathe. This is going to help you with your productivity.

Meal prepping.

When working from home, you can get into some bad habits with what you’re putting in your body because the fridge is right there. My suggestion is to get your dinners ready for the week on Sundays. Prepare everything ready to go, so it’s nice and easy. Have healthy snacks on hand that you can grab, versus not having anything in the house except for something that’s not good for you.

Design an end of the day routine.

My end of the day time is usually at 4 PM. That is the time when my kids would get home from school. You need to have ‘triggers’ for your brain to shut down and be at home and present. Otherwise, you might become a recovering workaholic. So shutting down your email, shutting out of your Facebook, getting your inbox to zero, and then that’s it. You are done for the day.

We want to make the most out of our time when we are in our houses, and this is how you’re going to do it.

Think BIG & Dream BIGGER

You must set high goals for yourself to achieve great things in life

When I speak to a client about how much money they want to make in their pet sitting business, I am shocked at the answers that I receive.  The responses usually range anywhere from $30,000 to $75,000.  That’s an average of $52,500 per year for what these businesses hope and wish they could make. I find this not only shocking but also sad. You see, you must set high goals for yourself to achieve great things in life, and with all of these pet sitting business owners setting the bar so low for themselves, it’s no wonder there are so few profitable pet sitting businesses out there.

I‘m here to tell you that you CAN make so much more in your business and that you don’t have to play small. You can create a greatly prosperous and professionally fulfilling pet sitting business. I know that it may not seem possible, but I can tell you from experience that it is! By creating systems and leverage techniques you can ignite your pet sitting business into a moneymaking machine. First, you must change your mindset:

You must think BIGGER, dream BIGGER and BELIEVE that you can do it. Then you have to do the work.

My personal business coach, Fabienne Fredrickson, shared with me a paragraph from Louise Hay’s book “You Can Heal Your Life.” This excerpt has resonated with me and hopefully it will do the same for you.

“I love the visualization of standing at the seashore looking out at the vast ocean and knowing that this ocean is the abundance that is available to me. Look down at your hands and see what sort of container you are holding. Is it a teaspoon, a thimble with a hole in it, a paper cup, a glass, a tumbler, a pitcher, a bucket, a washtub, or perhaps you have a pipeline connected to this ocean of abundance? Look around you and notice that no matter how many people there are and no matter what kind of container they have, there is plenty for everyone. You cannot rob another, and they cannot rob you. And in no way can you drain the ocean dry. Your container is your consciousness, and it can always be exchanged for a larger container.”

Think BIG & Dream BIGGER quote

After I read this I looked at myself and realized that I was carrying only a small pitcher. I wanted to make money, but I was content with “just enough.” That was the thought that I constantly told myself. (You have to start becoming keen to the sabotaging thoughts that go through your mind.) It wasn’t until I shifted my mindset and asked the universe to triple my income that the right opportunities started to present themselves. It’s strange how the universe works. “Ask and you shall receive.” It’s so true.

Your Homework Assignment:

Picture yourself on the shoreline, feet in the sand, looking out at our vast ocean of abundance. What’s in your hands? Now, change that mental picture to that large pipeline. Next start writing the goals down as if you have already received them and are so grateful. Remember, you can’t ask for too much because you can never exhaust the supply of abundance that is available to you.

  1. I’m so happy and grateful that I received 5 new clients this week. I’m so grateful! Thank you universe!
  2. I’m so happy and grateful that I hired 2 new fabulous, responsible pet sitters this week. I’m so happy and grateful. Thank you universe!
  3. I’m so happy and grateful that I made an additional $50,000 in revenue this year.

You get the picture. Be specific as possible and always be grateful for it. Without that element you won’t get very far. Remember, you are the only person that can set the limits. Think BIG, dream BIG and BELIEVE you can do it. I believe in you.

Here is one of my actual goal cards
