Your Q2 Business Reset: How to Course Correct Before Summer

Q1 is officially over.

And right now, one of two things is happening for you. Either you’re feeling pretty good about how the year has started, or you’re staring at the last three months thinking, “Okay, that did not go the way I planned.”

Both are valid. Both are workable.

Here’s the thing: Q2 is a clean slate. And it just happens to be the most important quarter of the year for pet sitting business owners. Spring travel is picking up. Summer is right around the corner. The families who need pet care are about to start booking, and the question is whether they’re booking with YOU.

But here’s what I see too many petpreneurs do. They skip right over the reset and dive straight into the busy season without ever stopping to ask: Am I actually building the business I want?

This post is your permission slip to pause for 20 minutes. Check in. Adjust. And walk into Q2 with a clear plan instead of a crossed fingers situation.

Step 1: Look at Your Numbers (Yes, Actually Look)

I know. The numbers can feel scary. But here’s the truth: you cannot fix what you refuse to see.

Pull up your revenue from January, February, and March. Add it up. Now ask yourself three questions:

  • Where did I land versus my goal? If you didn’t have a goal, that’s the first thing to fix.
  • What was my most profitable service or time slot? Not most popular. Most profitable.
  • Did I raise any prices in Q1? If not, summer is your window.

You don’t need a complicated spreadsheet. You need honest answers to those three questions.

Step 2: Assess Your Team Capacity

Summer is coming fast. The worst time to realize you’re understaffed is when your inbox is full of booking requests and you have no one to cover them.

Ask yourself:

  • Do I have enough sitters or walkers to handle a 30% increase in bookings?
  • Is anyone on my team a flight risk right now?
  • Do I have a backup plan if someone calls out during a peak week?

If the answer to any of those is “I’m not sure,” that’s your action item for April. Start recruiting now, before you need someone yesterday.Think of it like this: hiring in a panic almost always leads to hiring the wrong person. Hiring from a position of “I’m preparing for growth” gives you time to do it right.

Step 3: Audit Your Booking System

Here’s a question worth sitting with: Is your booking process making it easy or hard for clients to say yes?

Because during peak season, clients don’t have patience for friction. If they have to email you back and forth three times just to get a meet and greet scheduled, some of them won’t bother.

Look at your process right now and ask:

  • Can a new client book online?
  • Does your inquiry response go out within the hour, automatically?
  • Do clients get a confirmation with everything they need, without you typing it manually?

If you answered no to any of these, you have a revenue leak. Not a someday problem. A right now problem.

Step 4: Set ONE Clear Q2 Goal

Not five goals. Not a vision board full of goals. One number.

What does your ideal month look like in revenue terms by June? Write it down. Put it somewhere you’ll see it every single day.

Then work backwards. If you want $8,000 in June, what does that look like in bookings? What’s your average booking value? How many clients do you need? How many new clients do you need to add?

Suddenly a big scary number becomes a simple math problem. And simple math problems have solutions.

The Biggest Mistake Petpreneurs Make in Q2

They wait until June to prepare for summer.

The petpreneurs who have their best summer seasons? They spent April and May getting ready. They hired ahead of the rush. They raised their rates before peak season. They fixed their booking system before the inbox flood. They planned, and then they executed.

Your future self will thank you for the work you do right now.

Your Q2 Reset Action Plan

Here’s your 20-minute exercise this week:

  • 5 minutes: Pull your Q1 revenue numbers and write them down
  • 5 minutes: Answer the team capacity questions honestly
  • 5 minutes: Walk through your booking process as if you were a new client
  • 5 minutes: Write down your ONE revenue goal for Q2

That’s it. Twenty minutes that could change the entire trajectory of your summer.

You already have what it takes to build the business you want. You just need a plan and someone in your corner helping you execute it.

Ready to Make Q2 Your Best Quarter Yet?

If you looked at your Q1 numbers and felt that little twist in your stomach, I want you to know something: that feeling is information, not a verdict.

It means you care. It means you’re paying attention. And it means you’re ready to do something about it.

Let’s build your Q2 game plan together.

We’ll look at where you are, where you want to be, and exactly what needs to happen between now and summer to get you there.
